Analysing Dexter

Dexter is a TV show opening and this shows a lot of close up shots which gives you loads of emotion, Dexter starts off with an extreme close up which straight away draws you into the film. It then pauses and shows you the title which is big and bold and looks like its been covered in blood this gives a thriller effect. Dexter was shown doing everyday things but because the camera shot extreme close up was used it gives us a different impression and you will think that Dexter is some sort of murderer. Extreme close ups are good camera shots to use for thrillers as it shows you loads of emotion and gives you eagerness to know what is going to happen next.

  1. Are there any differences between this TV opening and a thriller film? What are being shown in this opening and why have they been used?

  2. Extreme close ups was often used in this TV opening miss this was to show a lot of emotion, there were a few differences in this TV opening compared to horrors for example the weather in this TV opening didn't really have an effect on the genre but with thrillers/horrors normally the weather will help you tell what the genre of the film is, there is also normally a dark setting in horror/thriller films which was not shown in this TV opening.
